Taste of gold

In Australia, the last 50 or so years has seen a massive change in the way we eat. When you think of the simple take-away options years ago being mainly fish and chips, Chinese food where you would take your own saucepan, have it filled at the shop, take it home and reheat, or pizza.

Where I grew up, there was only the fish and chip option and I was well into my teen years before I tasted a pizza or Chinese food.

As our culinary skills in the home changed and improved so did the type of food we ate and cooked. Restaurants are now booming and every type of cuisine imaginable is now available to cook at home, buy as take away or dine in. But now, the pizza offering has been taken to a whole new level!

Menulog – in collaboration with one of Parramatta’s most loved pizza restaurants, Pizza Design Co – is offering Australia’s first 23ct gold leaf pizza on a takeaway menu.

The Pizza Design Co ‘Golden Margherita’ – a classic margherita pizza topped with 23ct gold leaf – will be offered exclusively on the Menulog platform on Thursday, 13 October, and it will be available for a limited time exclusively from Menulog. Each Golden Margherita comes with a certificate of authenticity, and retails for $50. They are available for pick up only.

To whet the appetite of local residents, Menulog will offer complimentary Golden Margheritas to the first 100 orders. Pre-orders can be made from 12noon on 13 October, and are available for pick up from 5-9pm on the day. After the allocation is exhausted they will be available for purchase on Pizza Design Co’s menu on Menulog and instore.

Menulog spokesperson Melissa Grech says: “We anticipate local residents will love this pizza – particularly when they can trial it for free, before buying. At $50, we guarantee it will be the country’s most affordable 23ct gold leaf pizza.  The Golden Margherita fulfils the evolving tastes of the area, and showcases the creativity of the pizzas at Pizza Design Co.”

Owner and General Manager of Pizza Design Co., Nick Tsotras, anticipates a phenomenal local response: “Our partnership with Menulog will help us bring the Golden Margherita to many more thousands of people than we would normally be able to. At our restaurant opening last March alone, we had a 200-metre line-up of pizza lovers from Church Street all the way up to Phillip Street to try our complimentary pizzas. The Golden Margherita will be on our Menulog menu for a limited time, and if the demand is high, we’ll keep it on our menu.”

• Grab your Free Golden Pizza by entering the code GOLDPIZZA
• Head to Pizza Design Company between 5pm-9pm on the day to pick it up
• Once the 100 free pizzas have been exhausted, the Golden Margherita will be available for $50 exclusively through Menulog
