The Ultimate Party Book for Children

A child’s birthday is the highlight of the year in any family but planning a party can be super stressful and the party itself can be messy, chaotic, noisy, wild, or even a total flop, leaving you with feelings of despair.

Have you been to one of those parties where the parents seem to be in total control, the food is delicious, there are no accidents on that inflatable jumping castle, the children are having an absolute ball, are well behaved and somehow manage to maintain a pristine appearance? Where other adults are enjoying their own time, also eating delicious food, sipping (non) alcoholic drinks and simply soaking up the atmosphere of this wonderful celebration?

Yeah, so have I, and then I have come home and sipped my wine despairingly reminiscing about the children’s parties I have thrown – two phone calls to parents (who desperately dumped their kids and run away fast for some peace and quiet) to collect their children who had fallen off regular back yard play equipment and needed medical attention. Food smeared all over the kids, walls, carpets, dogs ears and ME. Dried up fairy bread, birthday cake where all the colour of the smarties has bled all over the now melting cupcake icing, burnt sausage rolls, cold party pies and cocktail frankfurts that have overcooked and exploded into something I can’t quite figure out how to describe.

At least my kids survived their parties, and I assume so did their friends who had been invited, but in those days parties were more often the way I have described mine as being, today, it is pretty much big business. Sure you can hire all the ‘bells and whistles’ but if you plan to do it yourself you need guidance, and not just for the birthday cake’.

Cissy has extensive experience in catering for events, especially weddings, corporate functions and private parties. Whether using commercial kitchens, clients’ home kitchens or a boat’s galley, the challenge of creating food from conception through to presentation is exciting and satisfying for her.
