The joke is on me

I was recently contacted by a lady named Mary, who, after reading one of my product reviews, asked if I had tried the ‘Makeup Eraser’. Her brief description of the product was something along the lines of – a piece of fabric with a nap that you wet with just warm water and use to rub off your makeup.

Instantly I thought of an everyday face washer, and thought she was playing some kind of joke on me. She had read one of my reviews on a facial cleanser and I thought she was being ‘smart’ and saying I should just use a face washer.

I called her bluff and ask her to send me one for review – lo and behold, it came, and, it’s not a face washer.

Founded in 2012 by Daniel and Elexsis McCarthy, the Original MakeUp Remover is an all-natural method of removing your makeup – no harsh chemicals or creams required, and the best part of all is that it’s reusable.

The Makeup Eraser is pink with a sateen edge –it is plush and soft to the touch, and it is recommended that you wash it before use to open the fibres and get rid of any little pink fuzzies.

To use, you firstly drench a portion of the cloth with warm water and use the short nap side to remove your makeup. After the makeup has been erased from your face, flip the cloth to the long nap side to gently exfoliate the skin. Yes, it’s simple to use, but it still sounds like it might just be a simple face washer, except that I use a heavy, waterproof, 24 hour ‘colour stay’ foundation and a normal face washer doesn’t remove it without also using a cleansing product.

Using the MakeUpEraser in small circular motions, my heavy foundation was completely removed, leaving my skin as clean as if I had cleansed with a chemical or natural cream/liquid cleanser. But, with one of these cleansers, I usually have to use the product twice, sometimes three times to get completely clean skin – the MakeUp Eraser removed my makeup in one go.

The product also removes waterproof eyeliner and mascara, and it does this well, but I found that even the gentle rubbing required is a bit more harsh than I like. So, for me, with waterproof eye products, I wouldn’t use the MakeUp Eraser, but I think it would work brilliantly for regular mascaras and eyeliners.

Then, just throw it in the wash and not even waterproof makeup will leave a stain on it. The Makeup Eraser will last 1000 washes, is also suitable to pop into the clothes drier – it will eliminate your need to buy product to remove your makeup.
