It was Elias and Colleen Jreissati’s dream to create an Australian winery that would produce exceptional French inspired wines, handcrafted without compromise. Their dream became a reality at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, on the banks of the Yarra River – Levantine Hill.

Syrah 2014Levantine Hill Syrah 2014

I had the pleasure of re-visiting a favourite from this estate – a Levantine Hill Syrah.

Back in early 2014 I availed myself of their 2012 Syrah and anyone who remembers my review, will recall that I loved it.

A rose by any other name – the old world name of Syrah befits this fine winery far better than the modern label of Shiraz.

Now – down to business: The Syrah splashed into my glass revealing a rich red hue lighter than a full heavy Shiraz. The scents immediately radiated as I swirled my glass – both sweet and savoury aromas arose of Cherry Oak and spices. My first taste was great and gave me all the flavours I was expecting, but the subsequent mouthful I felt, was even more revealing of this quite complex wine with lots of character.

This is a wine that can be enjoyed today as well as cellared well into 10 years.

I don’t like drawing comparisons on vintages unless both are currently available to my readers, otherwise, what is the point! I can highly recommend this 2014 Syrah and suggest you enjoy it with Italian antipasto and cheeses.
