Drunk on Water

Life very nearly got in the way of a long-time dream for Melbourne-based artist and designer, Susie Monte.

Susie had long been interested in designing and creating but always managed to bury this amid the pesky demands of a standard career path.

She completed a Masters in Design at RMIT University and this led to three years in publishing, but it was attending the 2013 Big Hearted Business conference, run by the fabulous Clare Bowditch, that became the call to action she needed to move towards a more fulfilling and colourful life.

Drunk on Water is this new chapter in Susie’s creative journey. Having completed a fine art course at the Victorian College of the Arts, Susie combines her design experience with her strong passion for art to create unique, geometrically inspired prints and homewares that will brighten and add character to any wall space or home.

Ethically sourced and locally produced goods are highly valued by Susie Monte, so she decided to manufacture a range of scarves in the most sustainable way possible. In order to do this, she joined forces with Social Studio, a company certified by Ethical Clothing Australia to meet standards of production and treatment of workers.

The scarves by Drunk on Water are made from 100% silk and are digitally printed using direct digital textile printing technology, which has environmental benefits including minimal fabric waste, as printed fabric amounts are controlled. There is also zero ink waste, and local printing production reduces delivery and shipping strains.
